NFPA 10 Fire Extinguisher Installation and Maintenance webinarTelgian Fire Safety fire protection expert Tom Parrish will present a Fire Smarts “NFPA 10 Fire Extinguisher Installation and Maintenance” webinar on May 16, 2024, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm ET.

Parrish has more than 30 years of experience in fire protection and emergency response and is the retired Fire Marshal for Putnam Township Michigan, as well as the Vice President of Compliance & Training at Telgian Fire Safety. He serves on several National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) technical committees including NFPA 72 Signaling Systems for the Protection of Life and Property and Emergency Communications Systems. In addition, he is the President of Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA), as well as a senior instructor for NFPA.

“The NFPA 10: Standard for Portable Fire Extinguishers is adopted through the model building codes, making it one of the most widely used fire protection standards,” explains Parrish. “NFPA 10 covers the installation and maintenance requirements for portable fire extinguishers in buildings as well as vehicles, boats and campers.”

The webinar will cover the various types of fires, along with the related types of fire extinguishers. Participants will be introduced to the components and mounting methods of fire extinguishers, in addition to the spacing and placement requirements for installation. And maintenance requirements will also be discussed, including aspects of a monthly inspection and annual service.

At the conclusion of the webinar, participants will be able to describe the types of fire extinguishers appropriate for each class of fire, as well as the components and mounting methods of fire extinguishers. Attendees will also have a basic understanding of fire extinguisher installation and placement requirements, and fire extinguisher inspection and maintenance requirements.
